The Institute for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (IPER), in cooperation with the Association of Old Crafts and Skills NIT, successfully implemented the training ‘Montenegrin Golden Embroidery Skills’ which was organized within the project ‘Preservation and Development of the Traditional Montenegrin Craft – golden embroidery’. The aim of the training was to increase the number of women with the skill of embroidery and thus contribute to its preservation from oblivion.

During the training, the trainees were taught how to make golden embroidery details on Montenegrin women’s shirts, which are part of the Montenegrin traditional costume. Each trainee tied different shapes, according to her own creativity. One of the trainee stitched ebroidery from the shirt of the Princess Ksenija. The training lasted for 10 days, twice a week, three hours per each. The result of the training, in addition to 9 trained trainees, are 9 Montenegrin women shirts with golden embroidery details.

Extremely high commitment, effort, patience, devotion are just some of the epithets shown by the trainees at the training.

We believe that trained women will continue what we started – preserving the traditional Montenegrin golden embroidery by continuing to produce products with golden embroidery details, both independently and within the Association of Old Crafts and Skills of NIT.

Ten days of training contributed not only to acquiring the skill of golden embroidery but also to making new friendships and opportunities for mutual future cooperation.

The project is supported under the European Union-funded Regional Local Democracy Program (ReLOaD) and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In Montenegro, the ReLOaD program is implemented in partnership with the Capital city of Podgorica and the municipalities of Tivat, Kotor, Niksic and Pljevlja.
